Materials: rolls of toilet paper- the cheaper, the better I asked the school custodian if he could spare some. Just do a test to see if you can write on it.
ball point pens, one per student
Preparation:
1-I told my students we were going to play a review game, then showed them the toilet paper, they all giggled!!! Students choose how long of a "scroll"( papiro ) of toilet paper they wanted to use, I limited to a max of 10 sheets per student.
2-I asked students to write on the TP (using ball point pens) words they had learned in Spanish, one word (or phrase) per sheet.
3-After they had finished I asked them to put the pens
away (to make sure they dont write any additional words on the TP).
Game:
1-I grouped the students and explained the game:
a-Each group will take turns reading one word from the scrolls ( papiro ) of one of the members of their group.
b-I copied each word in the board under the group name.
c-If a student repeats a word that is already on the board, their group skips the turn.
d-Students can only read words written on the scrolls- they can't come up with words at the last minute.
2-When students ran out of words (or class ran out time) we all counted how many words each group had. The group with the most words wins.
I played this game with students 2nd-5th grade and they had a blast. Students younger than 2nd grade will have a hard time writting softly on the TP (so they dont tear it). It is the kind of game where the student that puts the most effort (more words and/or uncommon words) has the advantage!!!!
Hard work pays!!!
