| Country Game |
This is a game I used to play in Germany when I was little. Originally it was called "Länderspiel" and is played outside on the playgroung, either in the sand or on a cement surface (there you will need chalk). |
|
- Draw a big circle on the ground in the sand or with chalk
- Divide the circle into as many slices as players. You can have many different circles going on at the same time to include the entire class. You probably don't want more than 6 people in one circle.
- Each participant then stands in their slice of the circle and names their country.
- One person is chosen to come and stand in the middle with a small stick (or ball).
- They will call out one country while throwing the stick or ball up straight in the air.
- Everyone will start running away from the circle as fast as they can, except the country that was called. That person will need set a foot as fast as possible on the stick or catch the ball. As soon as they accomplish that they will yell out "Stop.
- Everyone has to stand turn to stone and stand still.
- There are two versions on how to continue from this point
- The person who yelled stop will try to hit one of the children who ran away with the ball.
- The person who yelled stop may take 3 giant jumps, trying to touch another person with the stick
- If they are successful he/she is allowed to annex a part of the other child' country.
- To do that he/she needs to stand with both feet inside his/her country and take the chalk (or stick) trying to re-draw the boundaries of his/her country. They may stand on one foot trying to balance to reach further, but are not allowed to touch the other country with their foot.
- The game continues until one participant does not have enough land left to stand on.
